So 2013 appears to have no news, but it has been a very busy year in the Pet Portrait Scheme of things! On an artsy outside note, I helped with an after school Art Club program this Spring, resulting in a traveling exhibit of kids work which took place this summer! I donated custom painted pet portraits to two important fundraisers this Spring; Silent auctions for Camp Takumta and the Washington County Youth Service Bureau. I love to help raise funds for these very worthy causes, both of which help kids in very different ways! On top of that I have had a number of portrait clients come my way and it is so great to meet folks who share that special love people have for their animals! I took a brief hiatus from exhibiting this year to focus on creating some new works, which have been going out the door almost as fast as I make them!
Coming Up: A happening during Montpelier's Art Walk for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and my own exhibit at the Barre Opera House!
Good times and photos to come!
Shots from the Black Door! Thanks to the Black Door Family for making me so welcome and giving me calamari and Blackberry lemondae!
2012 has already been a busy year for Christine Hartman Art! From mid January until March 6th, I participated in "The Art of the Chair" exhibit at the beautiful Chandler Gallery in Randolph Vermont. For the month of February, I had a one woman show at Montpelier's City Center, just in time to coincide with Montpelier's February Art Walk! Now I am busy preparing for the Pet Lover's Expo coming April 27 to the Barre Auditorium! If you weren't able to attend my recent exhibits, here are some photos for your viewing pleasure!
The Chair ~ “Sweet Dreams” ~ Found Object Art with Acrylic Painting
I have been contemplating a found object piece including this chair for a long time. Hearing about The Chair exhibit made it happen. The chair is such an integral piece of our lives. Many people, especially in Vermont, have a chair like this in a corner of their home or in an outbuilding with one leg missing. Every chair is open invitation to a cat, usually in a sunny spot. While the cat naps in the chair dreaming of little creatures he might have caught, the chair dreams of old times and life when it was tree.

My mixed media wall.
Smaller found object pieces were across the way.
Some older works...
Mizar was an inspiration of mine for so long that there had to be a Mizar Memorial Wall.
Gorillas are a fun subject too.
It was so fun to see my work hanging in such a big space!
I hung a total of 42 pieces at this exhibit!
Seen all the art? Have some refreshments!
An unusual process...this painting originated from the frame...
And what show is complete without an Adolescent Sasquatch?
Thanks for sharing my City Center Exhibit!
November - December 2011
Beer and Pizza have been a favorite combo since ancient times...but I'm adding art to the mix! My acrylic paintings will be on display at Village Pizza, Montpelier, Vermont through the month of November. For those carnivores coming in to view the show, I would recommend the Vermont Steak Capital...for the veggies a Vegetarian with pesto sauce. They have great antipasto, creemees and a pool table too! What more could you want...except...Pet Portraits!
My painting, through the window, reflecting my hand and an art show in the City Center; fun but not a very good image, so I included the view below...
Wish I had painted the car too! If you're passing through Montpelier, stop by for a slice!
Saturday August 5th 2011 I participated in Animal Appreciation Day, a nationwide event at Tractor Supply Company. I displayed my works at our local TSC and did a painting demonstration throughout the day. At the end of the day I adopted a kitten! Talk about a day filled with material for a pet portraitist! Coming up in September I will be showing works at the ARA's Fall Exhibit at the Montpelier City Center.
I am currently exhibiting artwork in Montpelier City Hall through the month of June and have two works hanging at The Art Resource Association's Group Show in the Montpelier City Center. The following photos will take you on a short tour of my city hall exhibit.
Happily, I got to hang on a sunny day!
Welcome to Montpelier City Hall....
My exhibit is past this bell from the USS Montpelier, & though those doors.
Excuse the glare! These glass cases made the show a challenge to hang and limited the works to light weight selections, but I am very happy to acquire an audience in the heart of downtown.
Well, it's been a pretty slow news year so far, but all that's about to change! As the buds pop out on all the trees and the snow slowly melts, artistic opportunities are sprouting in Montpelier!
- I am really excited to be on the board of the new Montpelier Arts Collective! We will be launching a group exhibit in a window display right across from Montpelier City Hall some time in May. It would be great to see these exhibits appearing in other empty spaces around our city that are awaiting rental. The Collective is also involved with a creative fence making project and Montpelier's July 3rd celebration, which will include an art exhibit on the Statehouse Lawn.
- I will have a variety of pet portraits and mixed media hanging in Montpelier City Hall for several weeks, starting in the beginning of May.
- Recently I became a member of the Art Resource Association of Central Vermont and will be participating in their group show at the Montpelier City Center in May.
On March 14, 2011, I attended a day long seminar entitled "Visual Artist as Entrepreneur" sponsored by Burlington City Arts. A very interesting day learning about art as business with views from artists, curators, grants & philanthropic organizations and more. The event was very well attended by almost 300 artists! Now I have some new tools to use while navigating the world of arts marketing! Thanks to the BCA and everyone who value the arts enough to make an event like this possible!!
I was the featured artist for the month of November 2010 at the Coffee Corner in downtown Montpelier, VT. This was strictly a photographic show.
The Coffee Corner, a Montpelier Landmark.
My favorite diner, serving localvore foods with vegetarian options and old fashioned stand bys! A great place for breakfast or lunch and very friendly to local artists!
More Events Coming Soon!
